PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
In close collaboration with Panasonic, ATW80Fabrics utilized its extensive maker network to coordinate the production of several hundred yards of stunning fabrics, intricately woven throughout the Panasonic CES 2024 exhibit space. Robertson and colleagues collaborated across organizations to bring to life 3 major fabric installations.
The first were two large-scale fabric installations - a 30ft x 20ft reception curtain from traditional 100% hemp kaya fabric by Kikuya Hemp, and hand-dyed in 12 shades of indigo by the renowned Watanabe Studios of Tokushima, Japan. Complementing the hemp kaya curtain, ATW80F coordinated the first ever collaboration between Watanabe Studio and a revolutionary non-petroleum material called Brewed Protein™ from biofabricators, Spiber Inc. for a 20ft x 15 ft curtain of 8 shades of indigo.
Complementing the hemp kaya curtain, we worked with Khadi Oaxaca to curate yards of handspun and woven fabrics for their table scapes throughout the space. Every inch of these fabrics were made from heritage cotton grown in the Costa Chica region, hand spun in the San Sebastian de Rio Hondo region, then handwoven by Angel Ramirez Martinez.
